Various state and federal laws require employers to display certain posters for the benefit of employees in order to inform them of key provisions in the law. In an effort to assist the employment community, the following information has been collected to act as a guide in obtaining required posters.

The information does not suggest that these are the only posters required, nor does it relieve employers of the responsibility of posting required notices not included in this guide.

The posters described are those that are required to be displayed in the broad spectrum of business and industry. Laws affecting a smaller number of employers may require posting additional posters.

Covered employers normally display the required posters where they may be seen by prospective employees, close to the employee time clocks, or other appropriate places where current employees may view them.

    National Do Not Call Registry

In the near future, all cell phone numbers will be released to telemarketing companies, which means you may begin receiving sales calls on your cell phone. To prevent this, you can contac the National Do Not Call Registry at (888) 382-1222.

Simply call the number listed above from your cellular phone and follow the directions. Once you have registered, your phone number will remain on the "Do Not Call" list for 5 years. This service is absolutely free. After approximately 31 days, your number will appear on this list and be released to telemarketing companies. If your cellular number changes during the 5-year period, you will need to reregister with your new number.

Big River Telephone Donates to Salvation Army
Dennis Marchi of Schnucks, Major Michael Thomas of the Salvation Army, and Ashley Robinson of Big River Telephone

Beginning November 28, 2005, Big River Telephone Company launched its annual holiday promotion in conjunction with Schnucks and the Salvation Army.

Customers of Big River Telephone received vouchers to the Schnucks store in Cape Girardeau, along with instructions on how to participate in the promotion. These same vouchers were available to shoppers at our area Schnucks location.

"We are very appreciative of the support of Big River Telephone. It is because of caring companies, like Big River that The Salvation Army is able to help thousands of needy area residents," said Major Michael Thomas of The Salvation Army.

By simply bringing the voucher to the Schnucks store, along with a $10 donation, an area family registered with the Salvation Army received a turkey dinner during the holiday season. The promotion, which ran through December 31, 2005, raised enough money to donate 32 turkeys to needy families across the region. In addition to that, Big River Telephone has matched the money donated by Schnucks customers and presented a check for $320 to the Salvation Army in Cape Girardeau.

“We are extremely appreciative to Schnucks and the generous citizens of our region for helping us provide this service for the Salvation Army,” stated Kevin Cantwell, President, Big River Telephone.
